Welcome to our Assured City & Guilds Mantrailing Programme! Our programme is one of the most comprehensive and supportive programmes available for canine mantrailing. We provide unwavering support at every step of your journey. Our training is tailored to meet your and your dog's specific needs, ensuring success in the field of ‘Canine Trailing’, regardless of your experience level.
We believe that you and your dog will have a fantastic time playing this game of hide-and-seek! This is not a new method of dog training, as mantrailing has been used for centuries. However, The College of Scent Dogs Ltd. has designed and introduced the new and progressive training method…. HydroTrailing™. This can be introduced with novice dogs assisting them in detailed discovery of the trail.
Whether you are a beginner or an experienced expert, we can accommodate all levels of development and learning. As you advance through our supported program, you will acquire all the essential skills and techniques to teach others in this fantastic pastime. Don't worry; we've got you covered.
Programme Outline
Week One: In the first week of this course, you will learn the process of training your dog in mantrailing. The training will cover scent identification and the use of our new HydroTrailing™ system. We will focus on training indications, reinforcement principles, generalization and working with decoys.
Week Two: This is a progressive week where we concentrate on the assessment based on the ‘International Rescue Organisation’s basic tests. The trail will be over a mile long and 45 minutes old. It will contain a decoy and require a non-contact indication, a challenging task for any Mantrailing Dog. Our thanks to the IRO for permitting the use of their assessment schedule.
Week Three: During the Instructor Week, you will receive training that will assist you in creating and designing your prosperous mantrailing course. The lessons will cover various topics, including adult learning theories, classroom skills, and creating a secure learning environment for dogs and humans. Also, you will be able to continue with practical training to enhance your canine mantrailing skills and training knowledge.
